The 2019 Spectrum Music

New Voices Composer Residency

Fresh Sounds from the Next Generation of Contemporary Jazz Writers in Canada. APPLICATIONS NOW CLOSED.

Stay tuned for NVCR 2020

The NVCR program allows a promising young composer the opportunity to develop and present a new work at an upcoming Spectrum concert through a guided mentorship process. The New Voices Composer Residency is aimed at composers at the high-school and undergraduate levels working in jazz, chamber jazz, and other crossover genres.

Fostering the next generation of contemporary jazz composers

Composers of all levels are invited to participate in our New Voices Workshop and apply for our accompanying Call For Scores (link below)! This year’s workshop features Simone Baron on accordion. The Call For Scores invites emerging composers to submit their best scores for consideration. From this & participation in the workshop, one individual will be selected as the 2019 New Voices Composer and will be awarded the opportunity to compose a new work for Jests in Time on April 6, 2019. This individual will also receive a series of mentorship sessions with the Spectrum composers. The concert will feature works by: Spectrum composers, guests, and the 2019 New Voices Composer.
